We would address it IF that time comes. Since the time has never been such for 101 years everthing I say would be STRAIGHT hypothetical. And truthfully based on our membership numbers now we could go 10 years without any new members and we would still be supreme in service to all mankind cause we just that thick. C'mon AKAD. Of course it's a hypothetical. I didn't think I needed to preface the question with "hypothetically speaking yadda yadda yadda" but.........hypothetically speaking homie, as a college educated woman, how do you believe your org would respond if the climate changed and the number of aspirants seeking membership noticeably declined ? Ok so I have some questions and I'm NOT tryin' to be an asshole. Rather, I am tryin' to illustrate a point. does AKA have honorary members? If so, did they seek out AKA or was an invitation extended? I submit that if invites were extended, one can make the argument that AKA recruited those honorees, challenging your assertion that AKA does not recruit. Just sayin'.... Underlined part, I stated in my previous post that I truly believe we could go 10 years without having MIP on any level and still be ok because there are a lot of us and if every member became active (cause we all know each org. has members that aren't) the organization will be ok. Now, Honorary Membership can be seen as recruiting, and in that aspect and that aspect alone, that is recruting for us (even though I'm not 100% for Honorary Membership). But outside of bestowing honorary membership, I do believe that is the only "recruiting" tool used. I doubt very seriously that chapters that are having lines in the 100s are out asking folks to come to an interest meeting, think about joining us. Hell, they are trying to find ways to put the Interest Meeting flyers in "not so obvious" places, lol!

For some odd reason....
I see Clinton and Sharpton, one white, one black, both extreme opposite ends of the sprectrum personality wise....as a subject of cross-culture and diversity for Phi Beta Sigma.
My feeling is that Sigma is on to something great through diversity. I think this is something that all greeks should be celebrating. How and why they induct their members is only the businesss of Sigma....
Mo Kelly brings up good debatable points....but those aren't neccesarily right or all that accurate, either. In the words of Damie, they are, however, plausible.
In all sincerity, I like their latest inductee class.
I'm also proud that Kappa boast a membership of great heritage thru non-honorary. Though this is becoming somewhat of a debate throughout the ranks...
My feeling is that in the next 3 or 4 years, Kappa will be making a grand exception to that rule.

All I know is... I can't wait for Al Sharpton to call Bubba "LB" on TV somewhere LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait either! I have a co-worker that is a Sigma, and we've been talking about it. So, I think that Al Sharpton is the Ace, and maybe Bill Clinton or Steve Wonder as the tail. And then everyone else falls in between, (don't really know the heights, but you get it, who will be the deuce, etc.) what ya'll think ;D

Steve needs to be somewhere in the middle....
Captain: I would guess both Al and Bubba would fight for this position but Al might win that one out.
Deuce: yeah, Bubba would hold that down ;D

I do have one question concerning honorary membership....is an honorary member initiated using the same ritual as a regular and duly initiated member or is there a special liturgy just for honorary membership? I only ask because IF a person is taken through the regular ritual then they aren't necessarily Honorary....they are a member....PERIOD.

I only ask because a truly HONORARY MEMBER is one who is either made through a special ceremony/ritual or is made on site, presented as a certificate and declared so by executive or legislative decree, edict or order.
If a person is made an honorary member by simply bypassing the usually PROCESS and just jumping right into the actually and usual initiation....then they are full fledged member.
Also, someone who does not have a degree can ONLY be made honorary and if they have the life experience and their values line up with those of the organization....who cares. If that organization has a mechanism to make honorary members then GO FOR IT!
I think Bill, Stevie and Al were good additions.
Sue me.

Are honorary members "invested" with the same ritual information and secrets as one who initiated by the majority of members? That's the question.
I have written an honorary ritual for an organization because they didn't want those who were conferred honorary membership to be confused into believing that they were "regular" members.

For Delta, yes they are Cam. Only the path to initiation is different. They know the same secrets and have the same rights as members initiated through UG/alumnae chapters.

To me, honorary membership is simply membership with a special allowance to substitute your money for your physical work/presence. Where I come from, honorary members are members indeed. Honorary members didn't put in as much work to be vested with their info, but I suppose the same could be said of MIP members (depending on who was speaking). Not for nothing though, I don't really foresee any of our honorary members actually wanting to exercise their "membership privileges"

They definitely get better seats when they show up to conventions ::DEAD:: I don't know if Honorary Members take the same vows as we do. I know that they are inducted during which ever Boule membership is being bestowed and it is administered by national officers, so that I can't really answer. I still say if you are going to administer Honorary Membership, let the folks at least have a college degree. That is just one brown person's opinion.

I'm glad my org decides not to confer our membership in this manner. Your life experience may preclude the necessity of "pledging" but you damn sure need to seek Omega and partake of the necessary mechanisms of Omegadom. Hank Aaron was delayed from making his initiation due to the filming of a commercial so he was never "inducted". Even though he sought the Frat and paid his money, he is not a member. As much as he has done and accomplished, he could be conferred "honorary" membership but Omega chooses a different course.

And that's fine because that's how the organization chooses to conduct and control it's "gates". Several organziations have chosen to not have honorary membership status and others, while confering the title "Honorary", actually put members through the same ritual as everyone else. So in that light, the title "Honorary" is moreso a replacement for a chapter name than a description of how someone was actually made. To each his/her own.
