The Game: Pushing aspirants away as a test of desire and perserverance to join the organization. As I said----I'm still TRYING to learn. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

i mean, would u not agree? even Tupac said "i dont want it if its that easy". he wasnt just talmbout some booty... I feel you there. But that isn't a game. It's real talk, greeks get approached by aspirants all the time. Sometimes you can get tired of someone approaching just about their org. It can get annoying. Pushing aspirants away? I don't think it's like that, and you are taking it like that, then your skin may not be tough enough. Don't take it personally though. You have to keep in mind, even though we were once aspirants ourselves, we have lives outside our orgs.

No I feel you on that one!!!!! I would not admire the organization I do If i expected the pledge process to be easy. Which is why I said I think a challenge cultivates growth----in terms of the pledging process! In terms of expressing interest however I think there should be a sense of solidarity..where we WANT to see each other grow and be a part of these great organizations! I see alot with female organizations a female getting blackballed from the organization for pretty ridiculous reasons. I def. feel there should be a balance..and i'm yet to see this balance.

To be frank, the "pushing away" as a test does exist, but not for pointless purposes. Look at it like this: EVERYONE puts a lot of time and effort into intake, from both aspirants and members (and moreso by members), so members are far more reluctant to just exerting such a largh amount of time and energy on any and everyone who is interested. It's almost like Human Resources. You can imagine the amount of applications that a large company may receive, and there has to be controls in place for weeding out, and to narrow the field. As an interest, use that time and those experiences to make sure that you are being true and fair to yourself. I'm not doubting you because I don't know you, but I see a lot of people spend a lot of money and time on an org, only to fall off the map or realize that they aren't ready for the commitment.

@GV: I would be lying if I said it wasn't being done. Just as any collegiate club, Greek organizations wants members who are going to be a positive asset to their org. And majority of the time, it is not what you are doing, it is who you know. Chapters on campus get viewed as "cliques" because they are found doing the same thing or acting the same way. And when it comes to aspiring membership, if you are not going in the same direction, then you are not even considered.
I would ask you this question GV: If you ran a business, would you not want the best in your company or would you rather randomly pick your employees?

I think its a legit question to ask anonymously. It definately couldn't be asked to someone in person like at an informational.
So for that....it is what it is.

GV, I mean either you want it or you don't. If you are unwilling to deal with whatever, then you don't want it, period. I got the so called "game" you are talking about when I was aspiring, and I dealt with it, and I am now a member. So, I don't feel aspirants when they come whining about how greeks treat them because I got it myself, as well as my other line sisters, and those lines that came after me when I was in UG. The lines before me got it as well.
So, my advice, don't ask the question why, cause you not gonna get a clear cut answer on that. The question you should ask is to yourself, "Am I gonna deal with this?" if you aren't, keep it moving.

So it's a dumbazz question that one would not/ought not ask in person? Got it. What makes it a dumbass question if she really wants to know? I agree that this situation boils down to "why ask why"....you know it happens so deal with it but I don't blame anyone for asking questions (especially anonymously) if they think they might get an answer.

That doesn't make it dumb. I'm sure many people had the same question.
It's a shot in the dark and people essentially answered her question. There's nothing mythical or magical about the runaround and/or the game. It just is what it is. There's no intrinsic value or pre-ordered lesson in this game....it just is. It's part asshole/bitch, part elitism, part just plain mean, etc.....
Then someone will toss some deeper meaning on it to justify but.....
*shrugs*

I'm def. not saying that BGLO's should discard their selectivity..... Superlativa ---> no harm in asking! Whether u think the question is stupid (it's all relative!) or not ....I love walmart. I'm bout 2 hit up super actually! LOl yall are hilarious =D Regardless of what answers I read on the post, I would have pursued and will continue to pursure this organization! It's a LIFE goal. It is always interesting however to get people's perspectives on things!
