Did any of you use the benefit of the internet while pursuing. I’m not talking about official D9 websites to find out notable members, the mission statements, and such. But more specifically, Greek message boards, chats, etc, to help you on your way to becoming a member of your org. For example, using the net to seek out advice from Greeks on how to act around the members, what to look out for, various ways to show your interest without being overbearing, how to ensure you get selected to make line, etc, etc.
I know plenty of us (raises hand) didn’t have the benefit of the internet age during the time of our pursuit – but if it were available then, I suppose I would have lurked to try to obtain some tips or what have you. But for those who did happen to use the net for this purpose, to what extent did you go? Did you just lurk at convo’s or actually ask questions to Greeks under an anonymous alias?
Lastly, are there any current OOA’ers here who were lurkers or contributors before becoming Greek? (I ask as I haven’t been here as long as some others and just don’t know)

Was no such thing as the internet during my original pursuit of DST. But yeah I used it second time around. Didin't go to the official website. I was greek when I joined and posted. Never lurked.

There was an internet around, but based on my prior experience I knew it wouldn't be any help. There's no substitute for getting "meet the Bruhz". So I didn't even bother to look.
I came to OO already Greek. I only lurked the first 2 weeks, because I was reading all the back threads (at that time there weren't so many that it was impossible to read them all). Once I finally caught up - I started posting.

I didn't, but being the person that I am I'm sure I would have used anything that I thought would aid me in my pursuit. I probably wouldn't have asked questions on message boards but I would have definitely read to see if I could find anything useful.

Shoot, I kind of wish I did have the net back then. I wouldn’t have posted questions, but I can’t lie – I probably would have looked for some advice that would have given me some peace of mind about where I stood in my efforts to get down. Not knowing if members are looking upon you favorably can be pretty stressful.

let's just say...you all help way more than you know.
or...maybe you do know...either way, i can admit to being quite "thirsty" when it comes to these MB/innanet and greek life. i dont substitute this with other means of finding info, but lurking sure helps.

I used the internet to research in high school. LOL!
But after getting the info I got off the internet and books, I made my choice my senior year in high school about pursuing Delta Sigma Theta in college.
But the internet ain't got shit on real life experiences and interactions.

Message boards wasn't as big of a rave as is it now back in 1999 so getting on the internet to discuss what aspirants do today was not heard of in my neck of the woods and during that time. You just had to go off your instincts with presonal interaction. When I came to this board I was already Greek and had been so for 6 years.

this is kinda like being a child overhearing a conversation your parents are having about you that you not ur not supposed to hear...
KINDA
now of course the way your parents would've directly disciplined/interacted with you was different, but hearin them talk about it amongst themselves was kinda like background info for what was forthcoming...

juschill JUSKNOW that while this is an open message board for all to see - To believe that you can take all info found in conversations from here (or anywhere else), apply them all to your pursuit, and everything will will run silky smooth.....would be quite foolish. Every pursuit is different, unique, and poses its own set of challenges according to individual and chapter. What "strategies and tactics" that may have worked for someone here in their pursuit, may be of no help IRL to your particular pursuit. Don't depend on everything you see or hear on the net. You'll have to take that journey on your own to see how the story ends.

HOWEVER, i think alot of "things aspirants wonder/always wanted to know but couldnt ask" type of convos arise on here and its just enlightening to see them answered without having to ask. (i.e. the "do you always greet another member of your org" post.) just little stuff like that (and other topics too) that ive always wondered but clearly couldnt ask and prolly have no business knowing.
