Stolen from another thread.
May need to go in not made right thread.
At the ATL Greek Picnic (and I dislike the word picnic) every Divine Nine Organization was WELL represented! It was really a great experience, albeit HOT and SWELTERING!
However, an AKA with a great hair do (her locs were beautiful) said something to me about my hair as well (my hair is loc'd too). After I told her I liked her hair, she said, "Thanks Soror!"
My mouth and the mouth of my SororZ and LS'Z DROPPED! It's just unheard of here to call a fellow greek sister Soror unless you are in the same org.
I didn't get a chance to ask her if she was from another region, but I do wonder if anyone has had similar experiences. Maybe in a diff region, all greeks refer to each other as frat and soror.
Am I mistaken? What do YOU call women of another organization?
I know here in ATL we say Sistergreek, or just Greek.

I had an AKA from my yard and my sands call me Soror. I have no doubt about their process...however, me and my LSs were as well....Her soror looked at her...I didnt say anything...and she kinda laughed it off like, "I mean, we are all so tight, you know what I meant." needless, to say, I think it was a freudian slip. Thats the only time I had it happen to me. To answer, I dont call them anything other than their name or so in so who is XYZ. Ive heard of sistergreek though.

All of our sands in ALL the orgs were mad tight. She has my phone number and is on my FB page. We went to school together and we knew each other before we pledged, its not like we had just met. There really was no excuse.

No. Not once. But my LS told a story about a Delta neo who called her Soror. Apparently my LS recognized her from FB on campus and congratulated her. My LS (who was wearing no para, and whom the neo may not even known very well) kept it moving, but the girl responded "Aww. thanks Soror!" The problem? The girl knows my LS goes to her school. If she were a Delta, why would she NOT already know her?
Please believe I knew ev-er-y single Zeta and Sigma on my yard, whether Chi Chi, in grad/med/law school, faculty, what-have-you. I never ever had to wonder whether someone (with whom I am somewhat acquainted) was a soror, and the rule has never ever been "when in doubt, just call 'em soror and hope for the best."

What she said. This was a given for all orgs. back in the day at my UG. There was NO excuse for that, none.

It depends.. I didnt know until I got active with the Pan, but yes, in the "united" setting, we do call each other frater and soror... even if they are in a different org. I almost blew a gasket the first time and Iota called me Soror... then, a older soror explained it to me. Now outside of a meeting or official type NPHC event, then no, its not happening unless im joking with someone like brAKA or something close to me.

If a member of another fraternity calls me "frat" it wouldn't matter to me one bit. It's just not that deep. Usually, I call everyone bruh or bro (as it comes out of my mouth).

Fatal, I never liked that. Back in school, the NPHC of Buttcrackville gave an award for "Undergraduate Brother of the Year" and introduced him as "Brother John Q. Public" and I thought, hey...how nice. Then they gave the one for "UG Soror of the Year" and addressed her as Soror Milicent Doe and I got sick to my stomach. I don't know why I considered it such a big difference. If they had said "sister" I may not have cared, but it's the very same word. *shrugs*

Is she cute? I'm just sayin..... What's that got to do with anything? I was just wondering if this was a regional thing. I 've never heard of calling anyone outside my org soror. It was a greek picnic so maybe she was overwhelmed. I just don't know an excuse for this.

I dont like when Ques call me Soror. I dont like when Sorors call the bruhz Frat. But that is mild in comparison to the hair rising on my neck when non-Deltas or non-Ques refer to the Ques as The Bruhz. The use of the term CAT...I cuold go on for days....I think its wholly gay for other frats to refer to the Bruhz as the the Bruhz. Even further, I hate when OTHER frats call themselves "quizzing" me and asking if the Ques are my frat (I had someone on here do that) and of course, see above, my answer is "I dont have a frat", they are usually giddy but really, mind your fuggin business already...you are an Alpha/Kappa/Sigma/Iota...why do you care? It just all seems very...whats the word? Invasive to me...you got your own ish why you riding mine?! Thats just me though.

that's a big No Bueno. I ain't callin nobody line sister less'n they felt my heartbeat at some point. As a matter of fact, it's so near and dear a term to me that when one of 'em acts up, I stop calling her LS.
Once, I confused a visiting soror because I referred to someone as my line sister, and she "corrected" me. She informed me that my deuce is not just my line sister, but my sandz. Where she's from, LS is for when you're online, sandz is for after. And apparently, someone can be one but not the other, such as an eternal (or someone who chose not to postpledge with you...yuck). I guess sorta like the diff b/w big sister and prophyte. M'eh.

We call our sands those cats who crossed the same semester at different schools or grad chapters. I've heard the term use to mainly refer to members of your own Org. But at some point, the term "sands" loosley came to encompass members of other orgs that crossed the same semester you did. There are a lot of regional differences though with the various terms and their meanings.

My LSs and I have an experience that none other can share...and if you dont know what that is or what it meant or what it FELT like...nah, you aint my LS homie. Ive heard the LS/sandz distinction but I dont buy into that. My LSs are my LS then, now, and forever. Sands are just people who happened to cross in the same season in which I crossed. Nothing else really special about them.

I have no problem with this. If we are going to promote a sense of family in the D9, using the term outside of our own org isn't something I'm gonna get twisted about...... BUT EVERYONE INVOLVED MUST BE D9. I mean, I have AKA sands (that I refer to as such)and such so this really isn't a stretch for me.
