What are some of the things that would turn a person off from going to church or even joining a church?

The whole concept that is seems as if Pastors are begging for money and condemning those who dont give to the church.
or
the church that constantly takes up money but doesnt tell you what they are doing with it. (the members are not seeing fruit)

(the members are not seeing fruit) Definitely. Additions 1. Too many songs. 2. A Pastor that's not sincere/tries to entertain. 3. Services are too long. 4. No work being done OUTSIDE the church. 5. Bad doctrine/false teachings. And the list is long

Pastors that constantly talking about time. Micro-services.
I love my church though Pastor Andy holds my attention and gives me a little comic relief.

This is good. I agree with all of the reasons noted.
Also,
1. People that are too pushy, expecting too much of a commitment, too soon. 2. Unfriendly people (in an I'm-better-than-you-I'm-a-saint-you're-a-sinner way)

I would have to agree with everyone on their reasons, but here are few of mine:
~ Pastor constantly reminding the church that they need everyone to tithe correctly so they can make budget.
~ Touchy-feely churches
~ Praise and worship lasting longer than the sermon.
~ Having events the church can't afford, and telling everyone to make a another offering.

What's wrong with Praise and Worship? LOL ;D LOL @ Bad Choirs. Nothing is wrong with it, I don't mind it, but I should not be standing for almost 1.5 hours. When church service is only 2 hours.

YES!! My former pastor had a saying ,"People who don't go to church don't go because of people who do." Being able to quote scripture doesn't mean squat if your actions aren't representative of Christ-like behavior.

Churches where they criticize those who are tearing down racial walls in church. I strongly believe GOD never intended for churches to be segregated the way that some of them are. If we make it to heaven, there will not be different sections for the different ethinities, we will all be together. I hate "black" churches or "white churches". I should be GOD'S churches. Period.

Okay, I know I'm going to get hammered for this, but false ghost chaser... I understand catching the spirit (believe me I do), but I can't get down with the people that yes praise and worship as an opportunity to get their workout on.
Allow me to explain...
One day, in my search for a church home, I visited a prominent church located in the Bowie/Greenbelt area. During the praise and worship segment, I watched a woman start out seated. Then she stood up, clapping and singing along. Then she sloooowly started side stepping her way to the end of the pugh. Once she hit that aisle, she EXPLODED into dance!
I looked around, there were people doing the butterfly, the running man, the snake, backing it up... Way too much for my skidish nerves.
Startled the Dickens out of me and I haven't been back since.

I define Stepford Christians as those who hide behind the mask of Christianity. Always smiling and stating "I'm blessed and highly favored"; perfect hand wave, bible place correctly so and always stating the "right" thing. When in actuality they are hurting and need a release like the rest of us. I believe churches get so weighed down by people hiding behind the mask that we can't break through. Nobody wants to admit they are in need or having a problem. You dont' have to tell your business but the strong are to carry the burdens of the weak. It's okay to ask for help, for prayer, for deliveranc, for whatever you stand in need of!

People who look at me crazy when I show up to church in a t-shirt, cargo shorts and flip flops.
Just because YOU care what I have on doesn't mean that HE does.
Besides, I wear a suit EVERY DAY! When i'm at church, i'm at home.....and I should feel that way. Now, i'm not going to wear my PJs but then again, if somebody showed up in them....I wouldn't look at them funny!!
As long as they brushed their teeth before they said, HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!! LOL!!

LOL!! He's fine. He has to go and have another cyst remove from his scalp. Last one they claimed was cancerous but couldn't find the root cause of the cancer so we are just trusting God again that all will work out well. Thanks for asking!
