Now THIS is how you fight lies and smears. Call them bamas out. Don't apologize, don't equivocate, MEET IT SQUARELY face to face. Get 'em Barack. GET 'EM!!!!blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/lipstick-smear.htmlLipstick Smear: Obama Assails ‘Latest Made-Up Controversy by the John McCain Campaign’ September 10, 2008 11:02 AM In Norfolk, Va., this morning, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., directly took on the false charge by Sen. John McCain's campaign that Obama had called Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin a pig. Obama called it " the latest made-up controversy by the John McCain campaign." Tuesday night in Lebanon, Va., Obama -- talking about McCain's attempts to paint himself as an agent of change on various issues -- said "you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig." Palin last week had joked that the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull is lipstick, and many members of the audience took Obama's comment as an allusion to Palin's remarks. (Though not as Obama calling the governor a pig.) The McCain campaign immediately -- falsely and flatly -- asserted that Obama had called Palin a pig. Wednesday morning the McCain campaign launched a web video repeating the false claim. " What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that makes people sick and tired about politics in this country," Obama said. "They seize on innocent comments, and take them out of context," Obama said, calling it "catnip for the media." Obama explained to the students at Granby High School that the night before he'd been discussing McCain's economic policy and made the lipstick on a pig line, and "suddenly they say,' You must be talking about the Governor of Alaska!'" The crowd laughed. "It would be funny," Obama said. " But the news media decided that was the lead story yesterday." He charged that "the McCain campaign would much rather the story be about phony and foolish diversions than about the future." Obama said, " This happens every election cycle, every four years this is what they do. We have an energy crisis, an education system making us less competitive, we have an economy that is creating hardships for families all across America. We've got 2 wars, vets coming home not being cared for, and this is what they want to talk about? This is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about?" Obama said, " You know who ends up losing at the end of the day? It's not the Democratic candidate; it’s not the Republican candidate. It's you the American people." " Enough!" Obama said. " I don’t care what they say about me. But I love this country too much for them to take over another election with lies, and phony outrage and Swift Boat politics. Enough is enough. These are serious times and they call for a serious debate about where to take the nation.
"Spare me the phony outrage, spare me the phony talk about change, we have real problems in this country right now," he said. "The American people are looking to us for answers. Not distractions, not diversions…They want real answers. That's the kind of debate I intend to have, because that's the kind of debate the American people deserve." Post 4000

Why this is important:
Steve Schmidt (a McCain Campaign manager) is no fool. They knew all along they weren't going to expose Palin to much media scrutiny so they set the stage. They let the media converge on her and then they said they were attacking - thus justifying them not having her interact with the media. She's probably going to screw up on her ABC interview (they are giving her a really LARGE task to have an interview that big with so little prepartion). Of course if she does, they can say she misspoke - and then justify not doing other interviews (except for Fox who will lob her soft ball questions). That is smart strategy
Dave Plouffe (campaign manager for Obama) is no fool either. They have let this circus go on to set their stage. The Obama camp has said repeatedly that it was McCain that was "working the refs" and that Obama wasn't interested in doing that. In reality Obama has just turned the media into his own personal staging area. He has set the stage to allow him to criticize the MEDIA for running attacks that are unfavorable to him that aren't issue related - without being accused of "working the refs". Not only can he discredit McCain's attacks, he can make the media more relunctant to play them, all the while demonstrating that he is about the issues.
From this position he can neutralize McCain attacks by sniping the media for covering them instead of the issues, he can advance attacks against McCain-Palin by proxy based on issues - all while maintaining that he's NOT working the refs.
That is brilliant.

Damie - I have to disagree with you. I think she will do fine in the interviews and the debate with Joe Biden. Charles Gibson is not exactly a Tim Russert or Bob Scheifer. Bill O'Reilly was extremely tough on Barack, and too bad she will never face questions like that. The sad part is she was elected with 114,000 votes. That turned out to be 48.1% in Alaska. She won the plurality but not the majority of Alaskans voters. I would not underestimate her, but not overestimate her either.
The reality is, in many ways, this IS an election between Sarah and Barack. Barack needs to quietly promise Hillary a Supreme Court Appointment in return for some down and dirty on Sarah.
To Barack - MAKE THE DEAL!

kinda gotta agree with hapi. Gibson leans to the right and it's reported that he let a lot of the BS that she and the campaign have been citing go. He reportedly didn't call her on a lot of things. mediamatters.org/items/200809090020If you notice, this "interview" is set up and done much like a "celebrity interview" versus a tim russert or chris mathews style interview. It's clear that the mcain camp is tryin to frame her as a celebrity versus a serious politician with a substantial record to run on.

::DEAD:: I'm glad he said something because the whole thing is just stupid and another tactic by the republican camp to once again, avoid the issues. He hit the nail on the head.

he lost when he made it about her and him ......he should have let the white man try and to put the white woman in her place especially since they are the VP candidates...... I guarantee that was the strategy of the McCain camp to get Obama to get into some foolishness with this pretty white women. .....And boy did the big black man who isn't really black fall for the trap. ..... The lipstick trap will cost him white woman votes and insecure white male votes...... he needs that with Oprah being boycotted and all

Before a third party can make a difference the whole system would have to change
1 cut this money raising mess completely out 2 get rid of Career politicians one term in the House or senate and back to work you go. 3 the president will have to have served in the senate, house or have been a Governor.
and while we are at it Supreme court Justice can serve a maximum of 10 years on the highest court in the Land
I guess we are stuck with demulicans but like Jesse said Keep Hope Alive thats better than cut your privates off

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (
18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
