Money isnt a problem for the Mets, so the only thing that stands in the way is if Santana becomes stupid with his demands.
So how does this shift the power in the NL East (regardless of last season i believe the Mets was the team to beat this upcoming year)?? How does it affect the MLB as a whole? What says the people?

First of all List, you can't come back from that type of choking last year to be so productive the following year. History will back me up on that, regardless of the sport.
Second, the Phillies (the team with the last 2 NL MVP's) have slowly patched every crack they had in the armor, including today's agreement to sign Feliz from the Giants (a move DESPERATELY needed).
I think the Phillies and Dodgers are the team(s) to beat in the N.L., and the Tigers might have the A.L. on lock...regardless of what Santana decides to do

I thought this was kinda funny. Actually, quite hilarious (except for the fact that the Braves have to see this dude next year). While the Yankees and Red Sox were nitpicking th deal, the Mets came in the back door on their azzes.

@alch - I don't think they used the back door, lol, they were always in the race. They had the farm system that attracted the Twins, Red Sox were in the race but (IMO) only because the Yanks were in it. George decimated his farm system...
Prince - i'm coming with my response bruh. You tryin to get on my team now...lol

yeah, the Mets were in it, but all you heard on TV revolved around the Stankees and the Sox. Meanwhile, the Braves will suck once again. At least when we sucked before, we were winning regular season games.

No Andruw Jones, no new pitching to speak of and they were lucky to stay in it as long as they did last year! Didn't J-Roll tell y'all last year...We're the team to beat. The Phillies are THE BEST offensive team in the N.L. The Braves will truly suck this year...you know that, I know that, we all know that. Are they going to use magic wood in their bats? Are they going to use the wings of mercury around the bases? Come on, I know it was a hard pill to swallow last year, but the Phils have got '08 in the NL East ON LOCK!!!

Anytime a team (in any sport) has had a major choke-off/collapse during the season or post season, you didn't hear from that team the next year. The Mets were truly shook over what happened to them. Delgado STILL talks about it. And the Phillies beat them straight up and snatched their hearts from them in the process! If the Phils were going to fall off, maybe the Mets would be a contender...but they won't, so they're not.

NO WAIT: I could prob knock a few balls out of Citizens Bank Park....that explains your statement. Sorry ass Citizens Bank Park makes every team look like an offensive juggernaut. ;D
They got the NL east on lock this year too?? Yea thats another one your gonna have to explain to me sir. If you give a good explanation, i'll admit your right.

They led the league in team RBI's. They have speed, power and play defense. They play in Citizens Bank Park (LOL...I must admit to that). They had the best record in the N.L. after the All-Star break after the Rockies. They had NUMEROUS key injuries last year and were still productive. They have a DEEEPP and underated bench. They have very good young arms. There is nobody in the NL East to challenge them but the Mets, and you know what the Phils did to them...

No one could've beaten the Rockies in the NL playoffs last year...they were a freakanature. And Citizens Bank Park isn't as much of a pinball machine as the media makes it out to be. And it's definitely not sorry bruh...it's one of the nicer parks in baseball! I am looking forward to checking out the new DC park this year and the two in NY in '09... Admit it bruh...the Phils shook the Mets last year!! Remember, the Mets were rollin' before that first Phillies sweep!!

NL East Power Rankings 1. The Phils 2. The Mets The End lol... While I will admit, Santana is a HUGE acquisition, the rest of your rotation is still very average at best. Maine is sometimey, Perez is overrated and Pedro is OLD. (Mets fans...please don't expect more than 11 wins out of him this year). I am elated that Santana went to the NL where we'll only have to see him once or twice. Minaya still has some holes to patch up...i.e. the bullpen.

So let me get this straight, in 07' the Mets were the favorites to win the NL East....but now in 08' they're not? Even though they are a healthier Mets team, even though they've upgraded the pitching, catching(defense), second base(defense and offense), right field (defense and offense), AND the bullpen positions?? Oh ok, its what i thought: Yall clearly are on some crack rocks.
Some of these responses are bs. Some of yall sounds stupid, your going of the fact that the Phillies went on a surge and the Mets went on a steep decline. Thats all your basing your opioion on. Fan or not, bias or no bias, you can't sit there and give me a strong enough defense for the argument that the Phillies are gonna winning the NL East.
Points to be made:
1. Perez is underrated, which is the reason the Pirates gave him up for so little.
2. Pedro doesn't have the heat in his arm anymore, but the nigga can paint the strikezone like Van Gogh, match that with the offense he'll get. I'll take Pedro over Andy "steroid using" Pettitte any day of the week.
Get off the pipe yall, the Phillies will challenge for the NL East, but they're a wild card team.

LOL @ Crack Rocks... I never had them atop of the '07 NL East standings... ... I didn't think Pedro would hold up enough to carry you guys. Oh and :dead: at "Andy 'steroid using' Pettitte...LOL. I'll take the Yanks Rotation and Bullpen ANY DAY over the Mets. Granted, Santana is a bonafide ace and Cy young type of guy but thats about it. BUT...Leave it up to Billy "I don't throw Strikes" Wagner and he'll blow 10 of Santana's leads... LOL. Comparison. Yanks: 1. Wang 2. Pettitte 3. Hughes 4. Joba! 5. Moose Mets: 1. Santana 2. Pedro 3. Maine 4. Perez 5. El Dookie (I know its not spelled like that ). Besides Santana, none of the rest of the guys on your rotation would probably even be a starter on the Yanks. Man since when do you be in the locker room and club house of the Mets?? If your not in the club house or the locker after and before games....you don't know nothing about chemstry. Besides when did they have chemstry problems? Secondly, there were no interest in retaining LoDuca. The Mets brass never contacted LoDuca's representatives...so your statement is stricken from the record. And i'll school you on something about a team sport....its takes a team to win. Church and Schneider are pieces to the puzzle...not superstars. Church ungraded right field over Shawn Green and Schneider is defensively better than LoDuca...and basically the same offensively.

Its not by chance that Barry Zito's most productive years came when Peterson coached him (I know you remember the Oakland Big 3). Peterson left and Zito's effectivness when on the decline....Howe is the reason Peterson left. Thats what he has to do with this.... Tim Hudson wasnt popping?? Your saying Tim Hudson wasn't popping?? The man who went 16-10 (with a poor Braves team) with 132 K's wasnt popping. Oh ok so i guess Jamie Moyer, Adam Eaton, Kyle Kendrick were the ones that "popped".
