On ramp red lights?

Do you have them in your city/area?
If so, what purpose do they serve?
Do they help with traffic congestion exiting onto the highway ?
Do you think they make matters worst or are they pretty much useless?

In my area where I live those lights or pointless. I don't see how letting one car at a time exit the highway will relief traffic congestion. How does that work anyway? Who thought of this? .

Do I have it wrong, ain't that what they are there for? To relief oncoming traffic? Please tell me? They get on my nerves

Me thinks they're lame. The short time it's red and green doesn't really make things effective IMO. The problem is folks don't know how to merge, but that a whole notha issue.

We have them and they are only on during rush hour. I think they help.

Statistics say those lights help. Never had to deal with one myself.
I think I read about them in the book Numbers Rule our World or something like that. Stats book.

If the highways are already flooded with cars, bumper to bumper traffic how is allowing cars to exit onto that SAME highway one car at a time helping. Don't the exit ramp get even more backed up BECAUSE of the those lights on the ramp, which creates traffic on the cross street that the ramp is on?

Statistics only say that so the taxpayers won't feel like they're taxed money is not working. lol

the ones in Atlanta don't help their traffic at all... and like Noble said it just causes the ramp to be backed up... SMH.. and scare the crap out of out of towners who aren't use to them (ME) ..

We have some here. It makes early morning and after school and 5p traffic atrocious. I tend to avoid the slab around those times.

We don't have that mess out here in the boonies. We take the Toll or you take your chances waiting on 3 minute red lights.
